OK, you’ve finally firmed up your event schedule for the year. Great. Now what do you do? How do you take the leap from paying the entry fee and getting confirmed to actually being prepared for the event?
These 4 steps will give you a great starting point and will help keep your eyes focused on your big goal:
- What physical and mental attributes are required for success? For example, must you climb well? Or must you be able to hammer along the flats for long periods of time?
- Do you possess these skills? If not, how will you improve enough in order to succeed?
- Have you written your training blueprint leading up to the event? The more detail, the better. Ideally, create a daily plan that takes you from today right through the event. This schedule won’t be cast in stone, of course, and must be fluid to accommodate the inevitable changes that will have to take place. But having a starting point is critical.
- Once your training blueprint is created, do you have intermediate goals to target between now and the event? Having detailed, challenging yet attainable goals will help keep you on track, and will help keep you focused on a day-to-day basis.
Knowing where you want to go, how you plan to get there and what you need to do in order to be successful give you a huge head start on achieving your goals. Going through the process yourself and laying out your plan is great.
