Tour de France Stage 9 — Tactical, or Boring?

Today’s race coverage was 4 1/2 hours long, with the expectations high of an exciting day of racing.  The Tour went over 2 major climbs today, most noticeably the Col du Tourmalet.

Contador is a mere 6 seconds back and Lance only 8 seconds back.  Many of the major contenders are within striking distance, so the anticipation was high for attacks on the climbs and with a strong possibility that the yellow jersey would change hands.

Today ended up being – dare I say – boring.  I hope you didn’t spend 4 1/2 hours in front of your TV watching as…..nothing happened.

Some may call it a tactical day, with Nocentini’s team being forced to continue to defend the jersey in the upcoming days, but come on.  One of the biggest days of the Tour on one of the most epic climbs with so much riding for so many riders, and nothing happened.  How about some fireworks?

What do you think about the Tour?  How about the much-discussed rivalry between Lance and Alberto?  Who will end up being the team leader?

I’m in awe of Lance Armstrong racing and winning the Tour so many times in the past. Lance is indeed putting the pressure on Alberto in 2009. Go Lance!

Your right, it was boring – or at least disappointing. I put it down to the organizers. The finish line was too far from the mountains to the finish to be selective.

A mountain finish or something less than 25km after the peak would have spiced things up
